Impact Of A Visual Programming Experience On The Attitude Toward Programming Of Introductory Undergraduate Students
Traditionally, textual tools have been utilized to teach basic programming languages and paradigms. Research has shown that students tend to be visual learners. Using flowcharts, students can quickly understand the logic of their programs and visualize the flow of commands in the algorithm. Moreover, applying programming to physical systems through the use of a microcontroller to facilitate this type of learning can spark an interest in students to advance their programming knowledge to create novel applications. This study examined if freshmen college students\u27 attitudes towards programming changed after completing a graphical programming lesson. Various attributes about students\u27 attitudes were examined including confidence, interest, stereotypes, and their belief in the usefulness of acquiring programming skills. The study found that there were no statistically significant differences in attitudes either immediately following the session or after a period of four weeks
Looking for bSM physics using top-quark polarization and decay-lepton kinematic asymmetries
We explore beyond Standard Model (bSM) physics signatures in the
channel of pair production process at the Tevatron and the LHC.
We study the effects of bSM physics scenarios on the top quark polarization and
on the kinematics of the decay leptons. To this end, we construct asymmetries
using the lepton energy and angular distributions. Further, we find their
correlations with the top polarization, net charge asymmetry and top forward
backward asymmetry. We show that used together, these observables can help
discriminate effectively between SM and different bSM scenarios which can lead
to varying degrees of top polarization at the Tevatron as well as the LHC. We
use two types of coloured mediator models to demonstrate the effectiveness of
proposed observables, an -channel axigluon and a -channel diquark.Comment: 39 pages, 10 figures and 4 tables. To appear in Phys. Rev.
Longitudinal top polarisation measurement and anomalous coupling
Kinematical distributions of decay products of the top quark carry
information on the polarisation of the top as well as on any possible new
physics in the decay of the top quark. We construct observables in the form of
asymmetries in the kinematical distributions to probe their effects.
Charged-lepton angular distributions in the decay are insensitive to anomalous
couplings to leading order. Hence these can be a robust probe of top
polarisation. However, these are difficult to measure in the case of highly
boosted top quarks as compared to energy distributions of decay products. These
are then sensitive, in general, to both top polarisation and top anomalous
couplings. We compare various asymmetries for their sensitivities to the
longitudinal polarisation of the top quark as well as to possible new physics
in the vertex, paying special attention to the case of highly boosted top
quarks. We perform a - analysis to determine the regions in the
longitudinal polarisation of the top quark and the couplings of the
vertex constrained by different combinations of the asymmetries. Moreover, we
find that use of observables sensitive to the longitudinal top polarisation can
add to the sensitivity to which the vertex can be probed.Comment: significantly revised version, clarifications on the term

Why the angular distribution of the top decay lepton is unchanged by anomalous coupling
We give a simple physical argument to understand the observation that the
angular distribution of the top decay lepton depends only on the polarisation
of the top and is independent of any anomalous coupling to linear order.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures. Added a footnote and consequently a few

Probing CP-violating Higgs contributions in gamma-gamma -> f anti-f through fermion polarization
We discuss the use of fermion polarization for studying neutral Higgs bosons
at a photon collider. To this aim we construct polarization asymmetries which
can isolate the contribution of a Higgs boson in , , from that of the QED continuum. This can help in getting
information on the coupling in case is a CP
eigenstate. We also construct CP-violating asymmetries which can probe CP
mixing in case has indeterminate CP. Furthermore, we take the MSSM with
CP violation as an example to demonstrate the potential of these asymmetries in
a numerical analysis. We find that these asymmetries are sensitive to the
presence of a Higgs boson as well as its CP properties over a wide range of
MSSM parameters. In particular, the method suggested can cover the region where
a light Higgs boson may have been missed by LEP due to CP violation in the
Higgs sector, and may be missed as well at the LHC.Comment: 14 pages, 14 figures, typeset in revtex4. Version which has appeared

Top polarization as a probe of new physics
5 pages, 4 figures (slightly modified), fixed typos, added acknowledgement Volume: 1200We investigate the effects of new physics scenarios containing a high mass vector resonance on top pair production at the LHC, using the polarization of the produced top. In particular we use kinematic distributions of the secondary lepton coming from top decay, which depends on top polarization, as it has been shown that the angular distribution of the decay lepton is insensitive to the anomalous tbW vertex and hence is a pure probe of new physics in top quark production. Spin sensitive variables involving the decay lepton are used to probe top polarization. Some sensitivity is found for the new couplings of the top.Peer reviewe
Comparison of Beers criteria and EU(7) potentially inappropriate medications list for the potentially inappropriate medications in Indian elderly inpatients
Background: Use of inappropriate medication is an important problem in present geriatric clinical practice. No specific potentially inappropriate medications (PIM) tools are available considering the availability of drugs in India. Aim and objective were to assess prevalence and pattern of potentially inappropriate medication (PIM) use in elderly inpatients by updated Beers criteria 2015 and EU(7) PIM list 2015.Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on medical records of elderly patients (≥65 yrs) admitted in the internal medicine wards and intensive care units (ICU) over a period of 6 weeks. The medications were evaluated for the PIM use as per Beers criteria and EU(7) PIM list. Results: A total of 225 patients (mean age- 71.48 yrs) were admitted in internal medicine wards and ICU during study period. Total 184 PIM belonged to 33 different medications were used during study period. The prevalence of PIM in internal medicine wards and ICUs were 51.96% and 57.14%, respectively. The prevalence of PIM was significantly higher with the EU(7) PIM list than Beers criteria (49.77% vs. 21.77%) [p<0.0001]. The commonly prescribed PIM were dextromethorphan (13.33%), ranitidine (11.11%) and glipizide (10.22%).Conclusions: Elderly patients frequently receive PIM. EU(7) PIM list identifies more PIM among elderly inpatients than Beers criteria

Multi-level Scalable Textual-Graphical Password Authentication Scheme for Web based Applications
Nowadays, user authentication is one of the important topics in information security. Authentication is necessary in multi-user systems. User name and password are used to authenticate a user. Text-based strong password scheme can provide security to a certain degree. Users tend to pick short passwords or passwords that are easy to remember, which makes the passwords vulnerable for attackers to break. Furthermore, textual password is vulnerable to shoulder-surfing, hidden camera and spy-ware attacks. Graphical authentication has been proposed as a possible alternative solution to text-based authentication, motivated particularly by the fact that humans can remember images better than text. However, they are mostly vulnerable to shoulder surfing. In this paper, we propose a Multi-level Scalable Textual-Graphical Password Authentication Scheme for web based applications. This scheme integrates both graphical and textual password schemes, and provides multi-level authentication scheme as compared to previously proposed single level scheme. In this scheme multi-level authentication is obtained by making use of SMS service, hence provides more secure service. This scheme shows significant potential bridging the gap between conventional textual password and graphical password. Further enhancements of this scheme are proposed and briefly discussed
Lepton distribution as a probe of new physics in production and decay of the t quark and its polarization
We investigate the possibilities of studying new physics in various processes
of t-quark production using kinematical distributions of the secondary lepton
coming from decay of t quarks. We show that the angular distributions of the
secondary lepton are insensitive to the anomalous tbW vertex and hence are pure
probes of new physics in a generic process of t-quark production. The energy
distribution of the lepton is distinctly affected by anomalous tbW couplings
and can be used to analyze them independent of the production process of t
quarks. The effects of t polarization on the distributions of the decay lepton
are demonstrated for top-pair production process at a gamma-gamma collider
mediated by a heavy Higgs boson.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures, uses axodraw.sty (included), references added.
